Quick Update: Michelle Alexander and Me

I got an email yesterday from civil rights advocate and litigator Michelle Alexander,the author of the New Jim Crow, which shows how our system for mass incarceration has been gamedto keep the black vote down.She agreed with me that PR mattersto restructure the US's political system(In fact, I learned that the main reasonBill Clinton's nominee Lani Guinier was not confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice was her advocacy of the use of PR to combat discrimination of minorities.)but believed that it was more fundamentalfor there to be an awakeningto the basic humanity of the "other".
I argued that it was possible to push for the use of PR without also pushing for an endto the US's 2-party system,And that the use of PR in part of our electoral system was a critical wayto make concrete an affirmation of the "other"..
